This is my dance space. This is your dance space.

Dirty Dancing, I know. Didn't see that one coming. But it was on TV last night while I was writing, so, what the hell. It was weird to look at Patrick Swayze and think that he's been dead now, for years. It seems ridiculous. Impossible. Johnny Castle can't die.
To tie the quote in, doing revisions on ANTIGODDESS occasionally feels like being a dance instructor. For myself. You know the scene where Johnny says, "Don't put your heel down. Don't put your heel down." And dumb Baby keeps putting her heel down and angering The Swayze? Well, that's me. I'm dumb Baby. And I'm also The Swayze. Dumb Baby will write, and then The Swayze will go back over it and say things like, "Don't do that. Or that. And don't do that AGAIN. What are you, trying to kill me? Is this your idea of fun?"
Damn. I know that movie way better than I'd like to. The good news is, revision phase one is almost complete. Then I can stop living in a hole for about a week before I start in on Book 2.
Another little tidbit: there's a moment in these revisions where I have to reveal something. And it's always hard to reveal something, in a way that feels like it hasn't been done a million times before. I kept thinking of that scene in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, (Fincher's version) where a murderer is about to do the dastardly deed and cues up Enya on the old discman. When I saw it, I chuckled. But after a few moments of Sail Away digging into my eardrums, I thought, "Okay, we get it. American Psycho was a good movie."
But so what if it was a little derivative. It was probably a nod to the other film anyway. And it was done fairly well. That should be a writer's only concern. Do it well.
I've got to get back to the hole now. But first, some of GIRL OF NIGHTMARES news: It's going through a bit of cover redesign. I haven't seen it yet, but word is they want to tie it more closely to Anna's cover. As soon as I've got a final, I'll post it up somewhere.
I'm reading THE SCORPIO RACES. It's bringing out the meat-eating horse lover in me.
When I saw the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in the movies (my dad and I are big fans on the Swedish films and the books so we were very worried) and he played Enya I immediately whispered to my dad, “Wow! Fincher’s paying homage to American Psycho!” I loved that because American Psycho is one of my favorite horror movies.
I’m excited to hear that you’re working on the books about dying gods already. I’m intrigued by the title, Antigoddess, is that going to be the name of the first book?
I LOVE the cover of Girl of Nightmares. Is it still going to be Nekro’s art? I’ve come to really love his art and I didn’t even realize I also own The Space Between by Brenna Yovanoff (I have yet to read it or her first book which I also have, the Replacement) and it’s also Nekro art. I also saw that he did the Spanish cover for Tessa Gratton’s Blood Magic which I have to find a way to get my hands on because Blood Magic was just plain brilliant and it was my favorite 2011 debut. Well, technically Anna was my favorite 2011 debut but I read it in 2012 so… lol
Anyway, I’ve never read Maggie Steifvater but I want to read her series, the one that starts with Shiver… I think it’s called the Wolves of Mercy Falls? Have you read it? Just wondering if it’s good. I’m reading Life Eternal by Yvonne Woon which is the second book in the Dead Beautiful series. I’m almost done and it’s very interesting so far, just as intriguing ad the first book (also titled Dead Beautiful). I have a giant to be read pile and I’ve been incorporating some classics into my reading because ALL I read is fantasy and horror and paranormal romance and I was home-schooled and chose my own books so I missed out on most of the “required” reading.

I just wanted to let you know I got the bookmarks and I was so happy when I saw them! They are just so beautiful and I’ve put one on my wall, one in a plastic bookmark sleeve and one in my copy of Anna! 😀 Thanks again! It means a lot to me. <3
American Psycho is brilliant. They’re trying to remake it, did you know? And if you haven’t read the book, check it out. Bret Easton Ellis is hilariously, viciously moral.
ANTIGODDESS is going to be the title for the first book in the new trilogy. I wrote it more than a year ago so it’s weird to be working so hard again on it now.
It’s still going to be Nekro’s art for GIRL OF NIGHTMARES, I think they’re just tweaking it. He, or she (not sure!) does gorgeous work!
Haven’t read The Wolves of Mercy Falls. I think the first werewolf book I’m going to tackle is Anne Rice’s THE WOLF GIFT. I may regret it.
So glad you got the bookmarks, and like them!
I didn’t know that! Why?! It isn’t even that old! That’s ridiculous! I’ve never read the book but I’ve added it to my TBR list, it sounds great though, thanks.
Well, if Anna is any indication I’m sure I’ll love it. Your writing style really keeps me hooked and considering I re-read Anna immediately after finishing it… well that says a lot because I don’t do that very often, only with my very favorite authors.
Yay! I believe Nekro is a man though.
I LOVE them. I’ve been showing everyone and got several people to buy Anna!
