A new catson! And ANTIGODDESS ARC giveaway with swag! (Ends Friday, July 12th.)

So this is a long and rambling giveaway post. I should probably break it out into more than one, but being the infrequent blogger I am, this is how it goes. First off, we had a minor freak out last week when we thought Tybalt was losing weight. There were several possible explanations for this (having his fangs removed, a recent food change, stress) however, I immediately assumed he was dying the horrible death of the dead. After much obsessing, and a knee-jerk vet appointment he never made it to, we determined the likely culprit was all of the above, plus being lonely after losing his cat brother, Mojo Jojo this winter. The solution? A new catson. Everyone, meet Tyrion Cattister:

Tyrion Cattister rotated

Originally, we were told he was a girl, so his name was Cersei Cattister. But then we brought him home and I noticed, well…nuts. I said, "better change his name to Tyrion." And Dylan said, "Those aren't nuts; she's a girl." And I said, "Listen, I think I know cat testicles when I see them." And then neither one of us knew what to do with that statement. Tyrion and Tybalt (we didn't do the "T-Y" matching thing on purpose) are getting along famously, after some fangless hissing. And I become skeptical that Tybalt was ever losing weight in the first place, because that kitten makes him look enormous, and his fat ass is putting my legs to sleep as I type this.

The one thing you can be sure of with a name like Tyrion Cattister, I'll never put him in a book. Which leads me to hint at another contest I'm running at the time of ANTIGODDESS' release. I'm running out of pets to put in books, is what I'm saying. I'm going to need to mine yours. It will be the "can I put your pet in my books?" contest.

But for now, let's segue into THIS contest: an ANTIGODDESS ARC with signed feather bookmark!

Antigoddess and bookmark
There are 2 ARCs up for grabs. I had three, but someone had a reading-related tragedy, and I was moved to help. So these are the last 2 I've got.

NOT SO FAST THOUGH!

First, you have to listen to my history lesson to find out how to comment. Why? Because, I'm a jerk, that's why.

In Antigoddess, there is a lot of allusion to the Trojan War. It's one of my favorite subjects, and the three goddesses at the heart of the story factor in pretty large in The Goddess War. Just in case you're unfamiliar with how the Trojan War started, here's a quick refresher:

One day, the gods were hanging around on Olympus, doing whatever the frick they do when they're not wreaking havoc or boning each other, and the goddess Discord (who nobody liked to hang out with because…well, discord is unpleasant) tossed a golden apple at them with a tag marked "To the Fairest."

For whatever reason (fruit shortage?) all the goddesses went Belieber crazy over the apple, until it came down to a final three: Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite. But how do you determine the fairest goddess of all?

Easy. You make a mortal teenage boy judge them like cows. I guess.

This unlucky chap was Prince Paris of Troy, who you are probably familiar with because of the famous story of Helen of Troy, or because of Orlando Bloom's butt cheeks in the film, Troy. Unfortunately for Paris, instead of allowing him to judge them fairly for their…er…fairness…each goddess offered a bribe.

Athena promised him he would become a great hero, and have great glory on the battlefield.

Hera promised him riches, and a vast kingdom.

Aphrodite promised him the most beautiful woman in the world.

He chose the hot chick, and as a result, pissed off Hera and Athena, and they pretty much ruined his life and the lives of his whole family. Killed his dad, had Achilles murder his brother Hector, sister Cassandra taken as a slave and murdered later (though she was sort of screwed already…as outlined in Antigoddess). Troy fell, chaos reigned, Aphrodite made the apple into one super-sized and very heavy earring…

SO, HERE'S HOW TO ENTER! Put yourself in Paris' place. Who would you choose, if you were offered the bribes? Why? Would you choose Athena's offer? It would be way cool to be a hero, to have a great destiny and kickass adventures. What kind of hero would you be?

Would you choose Hera's riches and power? Maybe spend your days Kardashian-ing it up poolside?

Would you choose the most beautiful girl, or boy? Snag yourself a…a…man, I'm out of touch. Who passes for hot these days?

This giveaway is international, and you can enter for multiple entries: comment below, comment on the ANTIGODDESS Facebook entry, Tweet the contest mentioning @KendareBlake, or comment at the GoodReads mirror post. I'll draw two random winners next Friday, July 12th. Good luck, and I look forward to your answers 🙂

Ok, well your history lesson made me more excited for the book, so thanks for that.

I guess I would pick Hera’s bribe. Well why not, have the power and riches to travel the world and do whatever I want, seems like a no-brainer for me.

    Thanks for the giveaway! 😀

    1. Re: Antigoddess

The history lesson was a gamble…half the reader probably tuned out 🙂 so I’m thrilled it did the opposite for you!

    Antigoddess for the win!

I would totally go with Athena’s offer. I mean vast riches and hot dudes are cool and all, but we are talking great glory and hero powers here! Paris was a fool for choosing the hot chick. I mean really, there are tons of hot people out there and Paris was a prince so I’m sure he wouldn’t too many problems finding one for himself…especially if he had tons of riches and/or hero powers and glory!

    Antigoddess

Yeah, I don’t like Eris, lol.

Anyway, just thinking about choosing one of the offers makes me cringe. Why? Because whoever you choose, you’ll end up upsetting one of the other goddesses…and you know the goddess when they get upset. But if I HAD to choose, I’d probably go with the hot boy…mmm. One of my many fictional BFs would be great! But then again Hera’s offer is pretty tempting too…nah, I’m going with the hottie! 😉

    1. Re: Antigoddess

Excellent point. And I suppose going with the hot boy can’t get you in as much trouble as Paris choosing the hot girl did back then! Or at least I’d hope not 🙂

I’d pick Athena because if you were the greatest hero and you had glory on the battlefield — no matter how hard that was and how many sacrifices you had to make — history would remember you. People of all time would know you. But if I picked Aphrodite and got beautiful ladies, even they would age and eventually became ugly and had wrinkles. And I chose Hera, I got richness and vast kingdom, but even the biggest kingdom couldn’t prosper forever. So yeah, I’d pick Athena cause that way, you’d somehow become eternal through history. And people would remember your greatness.

    1. Excellent answer. You are totally channeling Achilles 🙂

  5. Anonymous says:

    hmm~

I feel like with any offer from the gods, any way you choose it’ll probably be twisted somehow– like how Helen was the most beautiful woman in the world, but also insanely taken by someone else.

Probably choosing Hera’s kingdom would mean unseating another rich king, someone with the friends and the connections to try and take it back. I can also see Athena’s bribe working out something like Achilles’ fate in THE SONG OF ACHILLES (which omg so good) where you’ll get great fame, but you have to die young for it.

With all that in mind, I think I’d still choose Athena’s. Knowing that you’re going to be immortalized even if you die young is kind of a big thing, so I feel like it would be worth the sacrifice.

Thanks for the giveaway! 😀 The Trojan War is also one of my favorite things (woo hoo Aenas~) so this is a fun question to answer.

    1. Re: hmm~

You’re probably right. They’d find a way to screw you over. It’s just in their nature 🙂

I also love Aeneas! I was sort of bummed he didn’t find a way into Antigoddess.

This is a hard decision because none of those things really appeal to me. If Athena had offered something knowledge related maybe her, and Hera’s riches would finally get me my own horse but I hate most people in general so a kingdom to rule isn’t what I’d want (I don’t want to deal with people’s problems. It’s one reason I decided to be vet and not a doctor). And beautiful woman I couldn’t care less about.

If I was in Paris’s shoes however (and not quite so hormone driven, apparently) I’d go with Athena’s option. Being a hero could bring fame, which could then bring in riches because people would want you to perform heroic duties and you could be an… unpleasant person and make them pay for it, maybe earning enough to buy your own kingdom. And aren’t girls supposed to be attracted to the hero types so he could really get all three with Athena’s offer if he was lucky.

And that’s a long comment so I’ll stop there. Thanks for making this giveaway international 🙂

    1. You’re so practical 🙂

  7. Anonymous says:

First of all, I’d like to say HOORAY FOR INTERNATIONAL!!! 😀 THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! <3

I am so fascinated with Greek Mythology so I can’t wait for this. *_*

    Okay here’s my answer…

If I am faced with this tough situation, I would choose Athena’s offer.
Though, with the goddesses’ nature, there will always be a catch. And of course, those I didn’t choose will get pissed and make my life a living hell.
But anyway, it would really be awesome to be a hero. To be admired, help other people, doing great things for the good of many and to be able to leave a mark in history knowing your life has been worth something. 🙂

  8. Anonymous says:

    I choose…

Hera. I would go for the riches and kingdom over the hero and women. I wouldn’t want to have to do anything as a hero, and I’m not into women. 🙂 Thanks for the chance to win!

  9. Anonymous says:

I wouldn’t pick any i guess b/c 2 goddesses would be pissed off & i’d be screwed anyway BUT IF I HAD TO PICK ONE, I’d pick Athena’s offer – save the world, save the people & all that stuff 🙂 But maybe I’d consider Aphrodite’s offer…
Anyway, thanks for the giveaway!! 😀

  10. Anonymous says:

That is actually a pretty mean question. But well, Paris didn’t have it any better, did he?

All options do have their appeal, but seeing that I faired well without the most beautiful person in the world so far, Aphrodite would be the first who has to leave. (Besides, this would create too much stress anyway.)

So, Athena or Hera? Well, being a total kick-ass definitely would be a dream come true, but I kinda get the feeling I would die a horrible death at some point of time. Having a great destiny brings danger and even though I don’t mind some of that, I very much like living, too.

So it’s Hera, I guess. With riches and power you can actually DO things as well … and I would be able to afford all the books and travels. 😀 (I’m a shallow person, I admit that.) And with Hera being Zeus’ wife and mother of Ares, MAYBE she (or rather: they) can protect me from the other two’s wrath. Hopefully. (Wait, with my new riches I might buy two new apples … on the other hand, they wouldn’t be too pleased with that solution as well, would they? Gah, deities!)

I’m not entering the contest because well I already have an ARC and you know my answer. ONE DIRECTION.

    Also, adorable new catson.

  12. Anonymous says:

Firs off, I do love the names of your cats, and I’m really glad they’re getting along well!

As for Paris’ choice… Greeks gods and goddess are quite unreliable and prone to excess, but Athena has always been one of my fave goddesses, so even if her gift is not exactly what I’d love to get, I’d rather get on her good side!

  13. Anonymous says:

    Antigoddess

Hmm…I’d probably choose Hera, because I’m most afraid of getting her mad.
Plus, I’m too lazy to be battling. I’d rather spend my time reading! 😉

  14. Anonymous says:

    I would probably choose Athena.

That way when the other Goddess’ went all girl crazy, I would have a battle plan to save some people. And plus it would be cool to have a show about you like Hercules did. Kevin Sorbo. Enough said. Lol

  15. Anonymous says:

    Going With Athena

Um…I don’t want to piss off a Goddess, but, I would have to choose Athena. Aphrodite promised a beautiful boy or girl, but didn’t promise the love of that person, and even if she did, it wouldn’t be real. And I have no desire for riches, or a kingdom. Neither interest me. However, a hero is a good person who has learned and made sacrifices, a person who has grown stronger from what they chose. Athena is also a really wise Goddess and one of my favorites.
All of these have consequences, but I’d with Athena. No question.

  16. art4fun2013 says:

Getting so jazzed for the release of Antigoddess!

I would choose Hera’s promise of riches because I would like to donate most of it to various organizations like animal shelters, to be able to build and staff a huge animal sanctuary (maybe multiple ones across the globe) where animals can live there forever, it would take in animals with disabilities, animals on deathrow, etc. and not just cats and dogs, but farm animals, exotic animals, etc.

I want to kick ass please

Okay so this is an incredibly hard choice that has negatives both ways, but ideally in a fictional world, I sort of want to be the hero and kick some butt. I love heroines like Tris, Celaena and Katniss so yeah, despite the hard times, I think I’d choose Athena’s offer. Hopefully I still get a hot boy along the way… haha

    Hera

Definitely Hera. All that money could get you anything you wanted haha (I mean, not everything, but most things…) I definitely wouldn’t choose Aphrodite as Paris did because, who knows what the personality of the hottest guy would be….And while Athena’s sounds interesting enough, I probably wouldn’t choose her because I would probably suck at swordfighting and what not.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    I have Wanderlust issues…

I adore Greek and Roman mythology so I am super excited and on the look out for extra fingers to cross that I can land this book and excellent bookmark!

    My choice??
Well the title probably shows my answer but I want to rule out the other two first.
I don’t think I’d piss off Athena too much– because as she is also the goddess of wisdom, once she looks deeper or whatever and realizes I’m not into war and pain and fury and mathematics no matter how much respect I have for the rest of her associations, she won’t actually want to back me. I mean she is also the goddess of strategy…
Then as much as I adore Aphrodite, I’d much rather BE her than be sent a male copy of her. She would hopefully see this as a compliment and understand my desire for the beauty of love over the beauty of packaging.
Which brings me to Hera because right now in real life I could do with some riches. Riches to spread to my family who have been so supportive. Riches to save so I can breathe easier each month. And most importantly riches to TRAVEL.
All in all, the Gods probably prefer to be pissed off and feel slighted by us but as this is a fantastical problem, my answer gets to be laced in wishful fantasy!
Could I sound more like a hippie?! 😉

Thanks for the chance! *prepares to cross fingers and toes*

Easy. I’d definitely go with Athenas offer. Your whole kingdom would respect you and you’d always be remembered. I’d also love to be a hero and have adventures. You’d get guys and money from that but I’m not interested in guys or having loads of money anyway.

By the way, I loved Anna Dressed in Blood and Girl of Nightmares! I’ve read both books at least twice! And thanks for making this competition international!!!

I would take Hera up on her offer. Riches and a vast kingdom sound awesome, thank you very much. I’m sure it wouldn’t work out quite that well in the end though, as poor Paris learned.

Ooo that’s hard.. I’m not one who really cares about glory, though I’d love to be some kind of hero. Riches.. meh. Though I suppose now I could use the riches to buy a bunch of books! Hot guy? Nah. I think if I had to choose.. I’d go with Athena and be the hero. I want to help people anyway I can, but not for the recognition. Just the fact that I know I saved someone somehow is good enough for me. Perhaps she can make me invisible so they don’t know it’s me being the hero ;)Though I’d love to be rich! Haha gosh that’s such a hard one! Poor Paris having to choose! Though I think he chose wrong in the end ;P

This is a hard question because I wouldn’t really choose any of them. I wouldn’t want to be a hero and wouldn’t want to be rich and I wouldn’t want to be with someone because of how they look.

But if I had to choose, I would pick Aphrodite’s offer. I have a really good reason why!
Okay, so. If I would pick to be a hero, I would to “deal” with everything that comes with that. Fame and people and all the heavy weigh of having to be good and not make mistakes. People would look up to me.
If I choose to have a ton of money, I would only have stuff. While there is a lot of stuff I’d really like to have (books, songs on my iPod and gear for my camera), I would always feel like I didn’t deserve any of it because I didn’t work for it. I was raised to work for each and everything I got. It could hauling 90 pound hay bales and it could be baby sitting. I had to work for it.
So the reason I would pick to have some random hottie is because I would have some with me. I may not “love” them but there really isn’t many people I don’t get along with. I believe that if you want to, you can work anything out with anyone if both of you just sit and talk it out calmly. If both people of open minded, anything can happen.
So, if I could be with some dude that looks like Henry Cavill, then cool. Yeah he’ll be hot but chances are, he’ll be a nice guy too. Most people are nice. And if he’s not, we’ll work it out.

I’d rather be with some guy then be alone with money or fame.

That was an incredibly entertaining history lesson 🙂

I loved the history lesson, especially the part about Orlando’s butt cheeks in the movie Troy and this part – “One day, the gods were hanging around on Olympus, doing whatever the frick they do when they’re not wreaking havoc or boning each other…”

That is hilarious! The whole thing was funny, but I was laughing out loud at that. Anyway, I loved Anna Dressed in Blood and I can’t freaking WAIT until Antigoddess comes out, unless of course I am lucky enough to win a copy here!!! Fingers and toes crossed 🙂

    1. First of all, I would definitely choose the riches and vast kingdom. I personally would rather have the not perfect looking guy who can treat a girl well than the incredible looking guy who thinks his shit doesn’t stink and he can treat a girl however he feels like. So that option is out. As for the whole glory in battle thing, that’s great and all, but I’m a lover, not a fighter.

I would without a doubt go with Hera’s offer, especially given my current financial state. (I swear it’s not greed, but currently I’m a single mom living off of SSI and it is NOT easy) Probably half of my riches would go to books. I would just walk into the biggest bookstore I could find and order one of everything, plus get signed up for preorders for every YA book released in the future, plus a list of about 30 adult authors I enjoy. That would be AWESOME.

    Antigoddess Giveaway

    Tough question!
But if I were in Paris’s shoes I would make the Goddesses promise me that they would not get hurt by whomever I choose as the Fairest and will not mess my life to exact revenge from me. Then and only then (after they promise) would I choose. If I am right promises or oaths at that time taken are bound to the person as well as Goddesses ! Then I would choose Aphrodite. Because I would rather have someone by my side than the riches or adventures promised.

BTW awesome name for the cat! If I ever get to have one I will name her Moon (Sounds like Moo right?)

I am an idiot who bookmarked this for later and now later is TOO LATE. Curses!! Always one step behind when it comes to this ARC but I know the wait will be worth it.

I’m going to answer the question anyway because it’s super fun. I was going to choose Athena because that sounds FUN but I would be a really bumbling, really incompetent hero so that’s not actually fun. My decision was totally made when you said spend my days Kardashian-ing by the poolside because one of my dreams is to be filthy rich and do nothing but travel and eat ice cream. SO THAT OPTION FOR SURE. With that kind of money, I’m sure you would snag a hottie anyway!
